On 19 September 2020, Alder Grove Heritage Society, with the financial support of the Township of Langley’s Community Grant, held its first Community Heritage Day. The date was significant, as it was the 108th anniversary of the very first Aldergrove Agricultural Fair. Community Heritage Day was held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 265 Aldergrove and offered a walk through Aldergrove’s history from its pre-settler days until current times. It is the intent of the Society to continue holding these types of events, and once COVID-19 restrictions are relaxed, Community Heritage Day will continue to expand its offerings and activities to the general public.
In non-COVID-19 times, the Alder Grove Heritage Society participated in school talks at area schools, gave genealogy workshops, and took part in other local community events such as Cruise-In, Fair Days and the Christmas Parade. In 2019 we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the museum’s official opening.
Prior to COVID-19, the museum was open regular weekend hours without visitation restrictions and offered group tours for schools, seniors’ homes and other organizations. We look forward to being able to return to those times soon. The Society is planning an event for 2021, but we will all have to see how the year is going to unfold as vaccinations become available before we can make a final decision in the spring on what type of heritage event we will be hosting.
